Guide · Audio erotica explained

What is
audio erotica?

Audio erotica is adult fiction you listen to: short, spoken scenes — usually in the first person and addressed directly to you — performed by a voice actor and recorded for headphones. Unlike video, there is nothing to look at; the story, the voice and the sound design do all the work, which is why many people find it more intimate, more private and easier to fit into ordinary life.

What it actually sounds like

Most audio erotica is a single performer speaking to “you” as if you were in the room. Scenes run anywhere from five to twenty-five minutes. Some are pure storytelling (a scenario unfolding in real time), some are guided — the performer gives instructions and sets a pace — and some lean on ASMR techniques: whispers, breath, and close-mic sounds that feel physically near.

In Vibe, those three formats are labelled Erotic Storytelling, Guided / Instructions and ASMR Erotic, plus Roleplay & Scenarios for stories built around a specific setup — a stranger on a train, a chef after closing, an ex at your door.

Where it came from

The format grew up in online communities where amateur performers shared recordings tagged by who was speaking and who was being spoken to — that is where shorthand like F4M and M4F comes from. Apps such as Vibe, Quinn and Dipsea later turned it into a produced, curated format with consistent recording quality and a proper player.

Why people choose audio over video

Three reasons come up again and again. Imagination: nothing is shown, so the scene becomes whatever you picture. Privacy: it looks like listening to a podcast, needs no screen, and works with your eyes closed. Tone: because the performer is speaking to you, the emotional register — loving, teasing, dominant, dark — matters as much as what happens, and you can pick the register you are in the mood for.

How to start

Put on headphones (binaural recordings depend on them — see how binaural audio works). Pick a mood rather than a plot: if you want something warm, start with a romantic, GFE-style story such as Let Me Take Care of You Tonight or The Man Who Saved Your Seat; if you want something slow and sensory, try the ASMR collection. Read the tags before pressing play — every story in Vibe shows its audience, mood and themes up front.

Questions.

Is audio erotica the same as an erotic audiobook?

No. Audiobooks narrate a novel in the third person over hours; audio erotica is a short first-person scene spoken directly to the listener. See our comparison of audio erotica, audiobooks and ASMR.

Do I need headphones?

Strongly recommended. Most produced audio erotica, including every story in Vibe, is recorded binaurally, and the left-right spatial effect only works on headphones.

Is it free?

Vibe is free to start with no account required; a premium subscription unlocks the full library.
