In the arenas of Rome, Elias was known as The Scholar.
He was not a fighter. He was a scribe — educated, soft, and completely out of place among the blood and sand. He had been captured during a raid on his village and sold into the ludus as a servant.
That was how he met Marcus.
Marcus was a gladiator. Tall, broad, scarred, and terrifyingly skilled in the arena. He had won dozens of fights and earned the favor of the crowd — and the lanista.
He had also taken a liking to Elias.
At first, it was just stolen glances. Then it was rough, desperate fucks in the dark corners of the ludus after everyone else had gone to sleep. Marcus would pin Elias against the wall and take him hard and fast, growling filthy things in his ear while Elias tried desperately to stay quiet.
But it became more than that.
Marcus started protecting Elias. Keeping the other gladiators away from him. Making sure he had enough food. Touching him with something that almost looked like tenderness after they fucked.
One night, after a particularly brutal fight, Marcus came to Elias’s small room covered in blood and sand.
He didn’t speak.
He just grabbed Elias, kissed him like he was drowning, and fucked him against the wall with a desperation that bordered on violence.
When it was over, Marcus stayed buried inside him, breathing hard.
“I’m going to win my freedom,” Marcus said quietly. “And when I do… you’re coming with me.”
Elias’s heart clenched.
“You would take me with you?” he whispered.
Marcus pulled back just enough to look at him. His eyes were dark and intense.
“You’re mine,” he said simply. “I don’t leave what’s mine behind.”
Elias closed his eyes and rested his forehead against Marcus’s.
“Then win,” he whispered. “Win, and take me away from this place.”
Marcus kissed him again — slower this time, but no less intense.
“I will,” he promised. “For you, I will.”
And Elias believed him.
Because in a world of blood and sand, Marcus was the only thing that felt real.
